Varsity Tennis Finishes 3rd in State
In its eighth straight trip to the Final Four, the St. John's Jesuit Varsity Tennis team placed third at the Ohio Tennis Coaches Association (OTCA) state team tournament at Hilliard Davidson High School on Sunday, May 27.
The Titans defeated Copley 3-0 in the consolation finals after losing 3-1 to No. 1-ranked Springboro in the semifinals earlier in the day.
Securing the win over Copley for the Titans (19-3) were Kevin Brown '15 and Spencer Crawford '12 at second and third singles and the No. 2 doubles team of Caleb Mickler '13 and Adam Zychowicz '15. No. 1 singles player Bobby Adusumilli '12 and the No. 1 doubles team of Madhav Mehta '12 and Ryan Brown '14 were also leading when the match was called.
The doubles team of Caleb and Adam picked up the lone victory for the Titans against Springboro.
Earlier in May, SJJ claimed the first ever Three Rivers Athletic Conference Tennis championship on Saturday, May 5, just two days after the JV Tennis team performed the same feat.
The Titans finished with 28 points, four more than runner-up Findlay, after going undefeated in the TRAC regular season at 7-0 and then placing first at the conference tournament.
SJJ won four out of five individual flight championships with No. 2 singles player Kevin Brown '15 defeating Findlay 6-0, 6-3; No. 3 singles player Spencer Crawford '12 defeating Findlay 6-4, 6-3; No. 1 doubles team of Madhav Mehta '12 and Ryan Brown '14 defeating Findlay 6-2, 6-1; and No. 2 doubles team of Max Rectenwald '12 and Trevor Majdalani '15 defeating Findlay 7-5, 6-3. No. 1 singles player Bobby Adusumilli '12 finished in third as an individual.
