Campus Ministry-Our time of worship

Liturgies

Each morning mass is celebrated at 7:20 a.m., and the needs of the St. John’s Jesuit community and the world are remembered in prayer. All faculty, staff, students, and parents are invited to attend this mass. We celebrate a monthly all-school mass. We also offer reconciliation services and other liturgies throughout the year to celebrate and pray for our athletes, leaders, and clubs and activities.

Daily Prayer

Every school day begins with the morning prayer over the PA system. These prayers reflect the readings of the day, a celebration of the feast day of a saint, or a special event in the life of the Church or the school community.  Each morning a member of a selected team of students reads the morning prayer aloud to the community.

Ending the day with community-wide prayer is important to us as well. At the end of the 7th period every day, a student reads the Examen Prayer of St. Ignatius Loyola over the PA system. St. Ignatius insisted that all his Companions should pray the Examen at least twice a day. During this prayer, all members of the community reflect on where God has been in their lives so far during the day, the blessings they have received, and the times when they have been less-than-generous in their own responses to God. Finally, they resolve to do more to see God’s influence in their lives in the hours to come.
